Senior judges have ruled that a court order that demanded a 14-year-old girl who was sexually abused disclose her medical records was unlawful. The man accused of the abuse applied to Stafford Crown Court for an order requiring South Staffordshire Health Trust to reveal the girl's records. Two High Court judges ruled on Tuesday the crown court acted unlawfully in making the order against the trust.

A change in the law on asbestos compensation is set to be rushed through the Scottish Parliament. It will confirm Scottish law on indivisibilty of liability in such cases and permit the House of Commons to overturn a recent ruling in the House of Lords that might have seen mesothelioma sufferers have to sue a number of employers to recover all their compensation. It is expected to be passed on Thursday, the last day of the parliamentary term.

The Attorney General is hoping to take part in an appeal arising out of the case of paediatrician Sir Roy Meadow. The General Medical Council struck Meadow off the medical register after he gave mistaken evidence at a 1999 trial. But the High Court reversed the ruling in February, saying doctors could not be struck off for making mistakes as expert witnesses in court cases. Now Lord Goldsmith has asked to take part in a Court of Appeal challenge to the judgement.

A court case which will decide if sports clubs can claim compensation for a player injured on international duty has been moved to the European Court of Justice. Belgian club Charleroi brought the case against Fifa after Abdelmajid Oulmers was hurt playing for Morocco in 2004. Charleroi, who are backed by some of Europe's richest football clubs, say the loss of Oulmers damaged their hopes of success. Fifa insist there is no link between the injury of Oulmers and Charleroi's fifth-placed finish in the league.

Thousands of widows are to learn if they will receive full compensation for their husbands' deaths from asbestos-related cancer. Insurers have challenged the judgement favouring bereaved families and workers who contracted mesothelioma at work. They want a compensation limit in cases involving several employers, none of whom can be specifically blamed for the onset of the fatal illness.
