Andover man dead after mysterious attack

An elderly man found badly injured in a Hampshire car park in mysterious circumstances has died in hospital.

The 72-year-old man was discovered lying in a car park, in Admirals Way, Andover, on Friday night. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, with head injuries. A 32-year-old local man has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Scot Chilton, said: "At this stage it is unclear how the man suffered these injuries. A number of inquiries are being undertaken by detectives to establish the cause of his death."

A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Saturday afternoon.

Any witnesses to the incident, which took place at about midnight, have been urged to contact police urgently.
