Manchester teenager attacked with dog chain and bull terriers

by Murdo Maguire last modified 29-06-2006 07:13

A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured after four people attacked him with a dog chain before setting two bull terriers on him. Greater Manchester Police said the teenager needed surgery and has been left "severely traumatised".

The boy was targeted near a fishing pond in Peel Hall Park in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester. Det Sgt Tanya Stewart said there were witnesses to the attack, and urged them to come forward to speak to police.

The four people, including a teenage boy and girl in her late teens, punched him in the head and body and hit him with a metal dog chain. Two sandy-coloured Staffordshire bull terriers were then set on him. The teenager suffered injuries to his head and body and bites on his legs. Police said he was discharged from hospital, but will require further treatment.

Det Sgt Stewart said: "This was a savage and unprovoked attacked and I want to urge anybody who can help with our inquiries to come forward. We know people saw the attack and want to assure them that any information given will be given will be treated in absolute confidence."

A 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man have been questioned by police on suspicion of assault.
