Worker dies in Preston balcony accident
A council worker fell to his death when a flat's balcony rail collapsed in a "tragic accident", police said.
The 55-year-old man was carrying out repairs at the property on St Thomas Street, Preston, when he leant on the rail and it gave way. Police said he fell 12ft (3.6m) from the balcony and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital, where he later died.
A joint investigation is being carried out by Lancashire Constabulary and the Health and Safety Executive.
