Five arrested on people trafficking charge

Five people have been charged with smuggling people into Britain to work as prostitutes. The three women and two men are in police custody after being arrested in raids on premises in Surrey, Kent and London. They will appear before magistrates in Reigate, Surrey, on Monday.

They are charged with human trafficking into the UK for sexual exploitation, false imprisonment and controlling prostitution for gain.

The five are Vincent Calleja, 44, a property developer from Lower Kingswood, Surrey; Ian Lindsey, 43, a company director, unemployed Maxine Soper, 24, and Danielle Ghitulan, 18, an unemployed Romanian citizen, all from Tadworth, Surrey; and 20-year-old Cherice McIntosh, a student from Beckenham, south London.
