Scaffold death inquest opens Thursday
An inquest into the death of a construction worker who was injured when scaffolding collapsed at a building site will open on Thursday. John Robinson, 49, from Milton Keynes, died in hospital on Friday after the incident at the site of the new Jurys Inn Hotel in Milton Keynes a week ago. A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of his death will take place on Wednesday. Mr Robinson leaves a widow, three children and six grandchildren.
The site of the collapse of the 15 floors of scaffolding was being cleared on Tuesday so the Health and Safety Executive could begin its investigation. Two other people were injured in the incident. Up to 200 workmen were at the Witan Gate site but many were on a lunch break when the structure came down.
The 279-bedroom Jurys Inn Hotel was due to open in June.
