by Murdo Maguire last modified 01-01-2007 07:52

A Russian sailor has been rescued from his ship off the Dorset coast after suffering serious burns.

The Weymouth RNLI lifeboat went to the aid of the Russian ship on Sunday morning. The sailor, who is in his 30s, was taken to Dorchester Hospital before being transferred to the Specialist Burns Unit in Salisbury Hospital.

It is not clear how the man suffered the burns but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
