by Murdo Maguire last modified 06-01-2007 07:01

A taxi driver was seriously injured when he was robbed and beaten with metal bars by two passengers.

He picked up two men from outside the Stags Head public house in Queensbury, Bradford, and was attacked as he dropped the men off in Station Road. His condition was said to be serious but stable on Friday.

Police said the robbers were seen in the pub from 2000 GMT on Thursday. One was believed to have been drinking coffee and the other lemonade. They were both described as aged 30 to 40, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build and with grey hair, wearing black clothing and black gloves.

Witnesses or anyone who saw the men in the pub on Thursday evening have been urged to contact West Yorkshire Police.
