Clackmannanshire schoolbuses fail police safety checks

Two Clackmannanshire school buses have been taken off the road after failing police safety checks.

The action was taken after one of the vehicles was found with faulty brakes and the other failed a check on its emergency exit.

The faults came to light following an operation by officers working with the enforcement agency Vosa on Wednesday. Police said they were disappointed to come across un-roadworthy school buses during the first week of the new term.

The operators of the buses have not been named. Checks carried out on lorries and buses across Clackmannanshire resulted in a further seven vehicles being found with mechanical defects.

Insp Graeme Allan, of the Central Scotland Police roads unit, said: "The safety of children is paramount and it is disappointing that on the first week of the new school term, we discovered that two buses were not 100% roadworthy. Road policing officers and Vosa are extremely vigilant with safety and any driver or operator found to be running defective vehicles will be reported."
