Eight people - including five children - have been injured in a head-on crash between two cars in north Lincolnshire.

A six-year-old boy who suffered stomach injuries and a 22-year-old woman are both in a critical condition after the crash at Great Limber on Friday night. A nine-month-old boy is in a stable condition with serious injuries. Two five-year-old girls, an eight-year-old girl and a 38-year-old man escaped with bruising. A woman, aged 37, suffered a broken wrist.

Lincolnshire Police said the six-year-old boy underwent surgery last night and was expected to be transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool for specialist care. A force spokesman said none of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening.

Officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident, which happened at the junction of the A18 and B1210 on High Street, Great Limber at about 2000 GMT.
