Four years for Leicestershire man who who deliberately drove into crowd

by Conrad Murray last modified 08-09-2006 07:53

A man who drove his car into four young people after an argument has been jailed for at least four years. William Wright, 31, from Equity Road East in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, pleaded guilty to charges including grievous bodily harm with intent.

The judge at Leicester Crown Court told Wright he would have to convince a parole board he was no longer a public danger before being released.

One man suffered severe leg fractures after the incident in August 2005. The injured man, Adrian Yates from Earl Shilton who now has metal pins in his legs, said: "After the car had hit me, I really did think I haven't got any legs left. To look at them you really wouldn't have thought they could be repaired. He's gone and wasted years of my life. I've got a son and how can I explain to him what happened when he wants to play football with me?"

Mr Yates is now hoping to be granted compensation for his injuries from Wright's insurers.
