A man is recovering in hospital after being hit by a police vehicle responding to a disturbance at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.

The incident happened just before midnight on Friday and has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A group of people were fighting among themselves. A man was hit by a police vehicle responding to the incident."
