Policeman denies driving charges after 999 fatal

A police officer in Jersey has pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention. Sgt Mark John Hafey, 31, from St Clement, appeared before island magistrates in connection with a fatal crash on 1 August 2005.

Deborah Gardner died when her vehicle was in collision with a police car answering a 999 call on St Clements coast road, near La Mare. Sgt Hafey was remanded on a warning for five weeks.

The officer was charged following an investigation into the incident by Devon and Cornwall Police.
