Steelworks crush accident victim named

by Murdo Maguire last modified 06-01-2007 07:45

A worker who died at a Corus steel plant after becoming trapped underneath metal sheets has been named.

Ross Beddow, 22, of Netherton, Dudley, West Midlands, is thought to have been working as a sub-contractor at the site in Wombourne, Staffordshire. Paramedics were called to the plant on Thursday after reports that a piece of steel had fallen on a worker. Police said Mr Beddow had become trapped underneath a number of steel plates being loaded on to a crane.

Staffordshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint inquiry into the incident.

A number of staff at the plant were treated for shock, including a 32-year-old man who was taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley for further assessment and treatment.
