Ashley Martin, a 19-year-old rider from Shiptonthorpe in East Yorkshire, died after coming off his motorbike in a British Superbike competition at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on Sunday.

Mr Martin suffered a head injury when he crashed during a qualifying session and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary but later died after treatment.

The British Supersport team rider was on a part of the circuit known as the Gooseneck when the accident happened.

"We are all deeply saddened by this tragic accident," said Jonathan Palmer, the chief executive of MotorSport Vision, which runs Cadwell Park. "At this desperately sad time, our thoughts and greatest sympathies are with Ashley's family and friends. We will be working with the relevant authorities to fully investigate the circumstances of the incident."
