by Murdo Maguire last modified 24-09-2006 01:01

A 37-year-old man is critically injured after falling hundreds of feet from near the summit of Wales' highest mountain, Snowdon.

The man, who is believed to be from Warrington in Cheshire, was on Crib Goch, when he fell between 500 and 600 feet.
Several climbers saw the fall and called emergency services. A team from Llanberis Mountain Rescue and a helicopter from RAF Valley were called to help in the rescue.

The man was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where it is believed he is being treated for head injuries.

His condition in hospital was said to be critical.
