Scottish Island walking group winched to safety

by Conrad Murray last modified 31-08-2006 15:05

Five walkers have been rescued by a Stornoway Coastguard helicopter after getting into difficulty on the island of Ulva off Mull.

Two companions raised the alarm shortly after 2130 BST on Wednesday when they failed to return to a rendezvous point to be picked up by boat. They were winched to safety from the bottom of a cliff after using a camera flash to alert the helicopter crew.

The walkers, who were unhurt, were then flown to Oban Airport at Connel.
