Food poisoning from restaurant: can I claim compensation for loss of earnings?

I have been suffering food poisoning since eating at a restaurant on Friday last week. I have missed two days of work and will probably miss the rest of the week. This is very expensive for me as I am a contract worker. Can I make a claim against the restaurant?

You may be able to claim if you can establish that you have suffered food poisoning and where you got it from.

Try and make a list of everything you ate in the 72 hours before you became ill. If anyone else ate the same meal at the restaurant contact them to see if they were ill.

Report the case to the environmental health team.

Make sure your GP has taken samples and obtained formal tests to ascertain the type of infection.

We will ask our First Response team to contact you to take further details.
